Product Overview

ACTIVE CONSTITUENT: 980G/KG AMMONIUM SULPHATE

SACOA Spray Grade Ammonium Sulphate Herbicide Adjuvant is used with Glyphosate based herbicides to minimise antagonism when tank mixing with flowable herbicides, and to improve performance under adverse environmental conditions.

Product Description

SACOA Spray Grade Ammonium Sulphate Herbicide Adjuvant:

  • Improves the reliability and performance of certain herbicides and herbicide mixtures.
  • Reduces or eliminates product antagonism in Glyphosate tank mixtures with triazine herbicides.
  • Speeds Glyphosate brownout.
  • Improves rainfastness.
  • Can improve the performance of herbicides used with hard water.

Advantages

  • It improves water quality conditions to minimize the potential negative impact from hard water mineral deposits interacting with herbicides.
  • Acts as a buffering agent: Reduces the chemical antagonism in a range of herbicide mixtures, e.g. Glyphosate & triazines, Glyphosate & trifl uralin.
  • It helps transport Glyphosate molecules across the surface membrane of target weeds, allowing for good coverage and increases the biological activity of the plant, thereby providing improved plant uptake.

The Problem

It has been well documented that hard water can antagonize Glyphosate activity. This antagonism may result from the formation of Glyphosate salts of low solubility.

What is Hard Water?

Hard water is the description of water with high concentrations of minerals like calcium, magnesium, sodium, and iron. These minerals have a positive charge and are called “salts”. High concentrations of these salts can antagonize or interfere with the activity of Glyphosate (eg, Roundup®). The positive charge of these salts is attracted to the negative charge of the Glyphosate molecule and results in Glyphosate-salt complexes.

Unfortunately, some Glyphosate-salt complexes are not absorbed as easily into leaves as others, and so weed control may be reduced.

The Solution

Growers can add SACOA Spray Grade Ammonium Sulphate to Glyphosate as a cost-effective way of overcoming this antagonism, as SACOA Spray Grade Ammonium Sulphate hinders the formation of low soluble Glyphosate salts.

In the Tank

The addition of SACOA Spray Grade Ammonium Sulphate literally floods the spray solution with Nitrogen and Sulphate ions. Dispersal is aided by the product’s very small, consistenly sized particles.

These Ammonium ions compete with the hard waters positively charged ions thereby reducing their ability to tie up the Glyphosate molecules into an insoluble complex. This allows more of the Glyphosate molecules to maintain solubility and hence improves spray effectiveness.

On the Plant

The addition of SACOA Spray Grade Ammonium Sulphate also aids the uptake of Glyphosate into the plants. The Ammonium ions in SACOA Spray Grade Ammonium Sulphate bind with the Glyphosate molecules to create a complex that is more easily absorbed by some weeds.

All plants use nitrogen in their daily processes and therefore see the Ammonium Glyphosate complex as a source of nitrogen for use in the plant. As opposed to the use of SACOA Spray Grade Ammonium Sulphate to improve efficacy of Glyphosate, SACOA Spray Grade Ammonium Sulphate should not be used on Glyphosate tolerant crops, as the uptake may exceed the Glyphosate tolerance of these crops.

APVMA Approval

SACOA’s Spray Grade Ammonium Sulphate has been approved for use by the APVMA.

Solid vs Liquid Form

Traditionally Ammonium Sulphate has been used as a liquid with concentrations of 417 - 425g/L, but there has been a signifi cant shift to the solid/crystal option due to the reduced costs of freight, storage and packaging that the solid form offers.

It is critical that Ammonium Sulphate is added to the sprayer tank before any Glyphosate is added.

Ammonium Sulphate is used with Glyphosate based herbicides to reduce antagonism when tank mixing with flowable herbicides, and improve performance under adverse environmental conditions.

Note that many of the Ammonium Sulphate products on the market are sold as liquid solutions containing 417 or 425 gIL. While these are ready to use, packaging and transport costs make them more expensive.

A Better Product

  • Granules are very small for easy dispersal in water.
  • Consistent particle size with no dust helps to reduce clumping in the bags.
  • Bags are thick, durable plastic and packed on non returnable pallets.
  • Each pallet is individually boxed in cardboard for ease of transport.
